Why is your church called “The church in College Station”? / Do you think you're the only church?

Rather than choosing a name, we’ve chosen a description of what we’re aiming to live out. We call ourselves “the church in College Station” because the Bible reveals that believers in a city were simply called the church in that city — nothing more, nothing less. That name isn’t meant to exclude anyone. It’s actually meant to include every believer in Jesus in College Station, no matter their background.

Imagine drawing a big circle around the city. Everyone who believes in Christ is in that circle. Sadly, over time, smaller circles have formed within it — based on different views or traditions. Our heart is just to drop the smaller circles and meet as one — not to say we’ve figured it all out, but to be as faithful to the pattern in the Bible as we can.

We know it’s not easy. But we believe it’s worth trying. “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).

Who is the church leadership?

We hold to the New Testament pattern that each church would have multiple elders (Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5; Acts 20:17; James 5:14) who work together to oversee the church of God (Acts 20:28; Titus 1:7; 1 Peter 5:2), shepherd the flock of God (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:2), and take the lead as ones who will render an account to God (1 Tim. 5:17; Heb. 13:17), not by brandishing authority (Matt. 20:25-28; 1 Pet. 5:3) but by becoming patterns of the flock (1 Pet. 5:2). Thus, our church administration endeavors to follow this pattern.

Planning Your Visit

What should I expect if I visit on a Sunday?

Our gatherings are warm, Christ-centered, and participatory. While one person may speak at times, we make room for every believer to contribute in an orderly and edifying way — through singing, praying, sharing from the Bible, or offering a word of encouragement. Come as you are, participate as you’re comfortable, and discover the joy of worshiping together as fellow members of the household of God.
